Xeomin® is an FDA-approved neuromodulator injectable designed to temporarily soften moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Like BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®, Xeomin works by reducing activity in targeted facial muscles that contribute to expression lines.

What makes Xeomin different is its purified formulation. Xeomin contains incobotulinumtoxinA without the accessory proteins found in some other botulinum toxin products, which is why it’s sometimes referred to as a “naked” neurotoxin.

At Dr. Kaga’s practice in Marlboro and East Brunswick, NJ, Xeomin treatments are customized according to your facial anatomy, muscle movement, and aesthetic goals for natural-looking results.

How does Xeomin® work?

Repeated facial expressions such as frowning, squinting, and raising your eyebrows cause certain facial muscles to contract. Over time, these repeated movements can contribute to visible wrinkles and fine lines.

Xeomin temporarily blocks the nerve signals that cause targeted muscles to contract. As activity in those muscles decreases, the overlying expression lines gradually appear smoother. Unlike dermal fillers, Xeomin doesn’t add volume beneath the skin. It specifically addresses wrinkles caused by muscle movement.

Why choose Xeomin®?

Patients may choose Xeomin because they want an effective neuromodulator with a highly purified formulation.

Benefits of Xeomin may include:

  • Softening of moderate-to-severe frown lines
  • A purified formulation without accessory proteins
  • Quick, minimally invasive treatment
  • No required downtime
  • Results that maintain natural facial expression when appropriately dosed
  • Treatment customized to your individual facial movement

Dr. Kaga can help determine whether Xeomin or another injectable is better suited to your anatomy, previous treatment experience, and goals.

What can Xeomin® treat?

Xeomin Cosmetic is FDA-approved to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate-to-severe glabellar lines, or the vertical “11 lines” that develop between the eyebrows.

Neuromodulators may also be used by experienced medical providers in other facial areas depending on a patient’s anatomy and goals. These uses should be individually evaluated, as not every treatment area represents an FDA-approved cosmetic indication for Xeomin.

During your consultation, Dr. Kaga will assess your face both at rest and in motion before recommending treatment.

How is Xeomin® different from BOTOX® and Dysport®?

Xeomin, BOTOX® Cosmetic, and Dysport® are all botulinum toxin type A neuromodulators, but their formulations aren’t identical.

Xeomin contains incobotulinumtoxinA and is formulated without accessory proteins. BOTOX contains onabotulinumtoxinA, while Dysport contains abobotulinumtoxinA. Each product also has its own dosing and treatment characteristics, so their units aren’t interchangeable.

There isn’t one neuromodulator that’s automatically best for every patient. Dr. Kaga can recommend an option based on your facial anatomy, muscle strength, previous injectable experience, and desired result.

Am I a candidate for Xeomin®?

Xeomin may be appropriate for adults who are bothered by expression lines between the eyebrows and want a non-surgical way to soften their appearance.

Your candidacy depends on more than the presence of a wrinkle. Dr. Kaga will consider your medical history, facial anatomy, muscle movement, previous neuromodulator treatments, and aesthetic goals before recommending Xeomin.

If you’ve previously used another neuromodulator and are interested in trying Xeomin, your consultation is also an opportunity to discuss how your previous treatments performed.

What can I expect during treatment?

Dr. Kaga will first evaluate your facial movement to identify the muscles contributing to your frown lines. Xeomin is then administered into carefully selected areas using a very fine needle.

Treatment is quick, and most patients describe the injections as brief pinches. There is typically no required downtime, although temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites can occur.

When will I see results and how long will they last?

Xeomin results develop gradually following treatment. You may begin noticing improvement within several days, with the full effect generally evaluated within approximately two weeks.

Results commonly last around three to four months, although duration varies depending on factors such as the treatment area, dose, muscle strength, and your individual response.

As the effects wear off, normal muscle activity gradually returns. Dr. Kaga can recommend a maintenance schedule based on how your results develop.

Will Xeomin® make me look frozen?

Neuromodulator treatment doesn’t have to eliminate your natural expression. Dr. Kaga customizes the dose and placement based on how your individual facial muscles move.

The goal is to soften unwanted expression lines while maintaining facial balance and helping you continue to look like yourself—just more refreshed.
