Bioidentical hormone therapy & pellet treatments for men and women

Hormones influence many aspects of your health, including energy, sleep, mood, metabolism, sexual health, and body composition. When hormone levels change due to aging, menopause, perimenopause, low testosterone, or other factors, the effects can extend well beyond a single symptom.

At The Kaga Institute, Dr. Mira Kaga and our team provide personalized hormone evaluation and treatment for both women and men in Marlboro and East Brunswick, New Jersey. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, we evaluate your health history, symptoms, laboratory findings, medications, and individual risk factors to determine whether hormone therapy may be appropriate.

When treatment is recommended, your plan is tailored to your specific needs and monitored over time. Depending on the patient, this may include bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), hormone pellets, or other approaches to hormone management.

What are the signs of a hormone imbalance?

Symptoms vary depending on the hormones involved and can overlap with many other health conditions. Patients may experience:

  • Fatigue or changes in energy
  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Mood changes or irritability
  • Changes in libido or sexual function
  • Changes in weight or body composition
  • Difficulty concentrating or “brain fog”
  • Changes in menstrual cycles
  • Vaginal dryness or discomfort
  • Loss of muscle mass or strength
  • Changes in hair or skin

Because these symptoms aren’t specific to hormone imbalance, appropriate medical evaluation is important before beginning treatment.

How can TKI help me treat hormone imbalance?

At The Kaga Institute, we provide individualized hormone management rather than using the same treatment protocol for every patient.

Your evaluation may include a review of your symptoms, medical and family history, current medications, previous treatments, and laboratory testing when appropriate. Based on those findings, we can determine whether bioidentical hormone replacement therapy or another treatment approach may be appropriate.

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy uses hormones that are chemically identical to hormones naturally produced by the human body.

Depending on your individual needs, hormone therapy may involve estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, or a combination of therapies. Treatment is selected according to your symptoms, laboratory findings, medical history, and individual risk factors rather than simply based on age.

For appropriate patients, hormone therapy may help address symptoms associated with menopause, perimenopause, low testosterone, and other clinically identified hormone deficiencies.

Hormone pellet therapy

Hormone pellets provide another delivery option for certain patients receiving hormone replacement therapy. Small pellets containing prescribed hormones are placed beneath the skin, where they gradually release hormone over time.

Pellet therapy may be convenient for patients who prefer not to use daily or more frequently administered hormone treatments. However, pellets aren’t automatically the best choice for everyone. Our team can discuss the benefits, limitations, risks, and alternative delivery methods so your treatment can be selected appropriately.

Is hormone therapy different for women and men?

Yes. Hormonal changes, treatment goals, and appropriate therapies can differ significantly between women and men.

For women, treatment may focus on symptoms associated with perimenopause or menopause, including hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, vaginal symptoms, and other changes related to declining estrogen and progesterone.

For men with symptoms and clinically confirmed low testosterone, treatment may focus on restoring testosterone to an appropriate range while monitoring overall health and response to therapy.

In both cases, treatment should be individualized rather than based on symptoms or age alone.

How is hormone therapy monitored?

Hormone management doesn’t end once treatment begins. Follow-up allows our team to evaluate how you’re feeling, monitor your response, review relevant laboratory findings, and make adjustments when medically appropriate.

Monitoring is also important because more hormone isn’t necessarily better. The goal is to use an appropriate treatment strategy based on your health, symptoms, response, and individual risk factors.

Is bioidentical hormone therapy right for me?

Hormone therapy can be beneficial for appropriately selected patients, but it isn’t right for everyone. Your medical history, symptoms, laboratory findings, medications, and personal and family risk factors all need to be considered.

If you’re experiencing symptoms that you believe may be hormone-related, an evaluation with our team can help determine whether a hormonal issue is contributing and whether BHRT, pellet therapy, another form of hormone treatment, or a different approach makes the most sense.

Can hormone imbalances be prevented?

Normal age-related hormonal changes, including menopause and declining testosterone, can’t necessarily be prevented. However, healthy habits can support overall metabolic and hormonal health.

Regular physical activity, adequate sleep, balanced nutrition, maintaining a healthy weight, managing stress, and addressing underlying medical conditions can all play a role. These habits can support your health, but they don’t replace appropriate evaluation or treatment when a clinically significant hormone deficiency is present.
