A double chin can impact a broad range of adults, including both men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain. It is often resistant to diet and exercise alone. Unwanted fullness beneath the chin may not go away, and it can make a person appear older or heavier than they actually are.
At The Kaga Institute, we use Kybella® for our chin fat reduction procedures. Kybella® (deoxycholic acid) is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that physically and permanently destroys fat under the chin, or the “double chin,” for an improved profile. Kybella® is a non-surgical option for those who are bothered, unhappy, or self-conscious about that area of their body.
Kybella® is the only non-surgical treatment created specifically to treat submental fullness and reduce submental fat. Kybella® is designed to minimize negative effects by avoiding the need for invasive measures and using a highly targeted approach.
The active ingredient in Kybella® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella® destroys fat cells so fat can’t be stored anymore.
As a nonsurgical procedure, there is little preparation required for a Kybella® treatment. Avoiding aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications two weeks before treatment is recommended to prevent bruising.
Before the procedure, your doctor will mark the injection sites with marker and may administer a topical numbing agent or ice pack to ease any pain or discomfort. Usually between 20 and 30, up to 50, injections are used under the chin.
The injection process may take 15 to 20 minutes.
Kybella® works gradually to kill fat cells, which are metabolized by the body over the following weeks. A patient usually has 1 to 3 treatments, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Once the desired aesthetic goal is reached, no further treatment is necessary as the treated cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.
A numbing cream is typically applied beforehand to ease the pain. Some patients note that the injections are a bit more uncomfortable than Botox or other fillers, and have experienced a stinging after injection.
Swelling is a normal side effect. Swelling will be worse the first few days following the treatment, and will gradually decrease over 1 to 2 weeks. Numbness and/or tenderness is also common over the first few days following treatment.
For patients that maintain a normal to a healthy lifestyle, results are permanent.
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum
