Although BOTOX® injections are used for a wide range of cosmetic reasons, it can also be beneficial to people who suffer from frequent headaches or migraines. These treatments prevent headaches and migraine attacks before they start, and on average can prevent 8-9 headache and migraine days per month. If you are an adult dealing with chronic migraines (15 or more headache days per month), this treatment might be the perfect solution for you!
Am I a candidate?
BOTOX® for migraines is typically not recommended for patients who experience less than 15 headache days a month.
How effective is BOTOX® for migraines?
BOTOX® prevents on average 8 or 9 headache days and migraine/probable migraine days a month (vs. 6 to 7 for placebo) at 24 weeks.
What can I expect during treatments?
During treatments, multiple injections are administered in 7 areas around the head and neck. Following the procedure, patients are free to leave immediately. It’s quite rare for patients to experience even moderate pain after receiving BOTOX® for migraines.
How often will I need treatments?
You will start out with 2 treatments spaced 12 weeks apart. After that, the average patient usually receives these treatments every 12 weeks after that–that’s just four times per year!
Are the treatments painful?
No, at Dr. Kaga's NJ practice we use a small needle. Patients often say that the injections feel like tiny pinches.
How long do the treatment sessions take?
BOTOX® sessions take 10 minutes to complete. Not only are these treatments effective, they’re quick too!
